Cheilinus abudjubbe

Biology

This fish lives in reefs to depths of 20m. It is most often observed in lagoons.

Like many fish of the wrasse family, this fish is hermaphrodite. It initially develops as a functional female and then becomes male.

This species is uncommon. However, its distribution includes a number of marine protected areas which helps to preserve its population.

The male is identifiable by the first part of its body showing a green colour with pink spots.
